I was thinking on this for dog food in general... isn't it mainly made up of the components of meat production which humans don't eat? So if we didn't all have massive dogs it would be true waste? Or would they just find some other way to get some value for it? Guess that plays into the LCA number you use for the beef
It's a good point, and I'm not 100% sure - it would certainly tip the balance a bit I agree. That Guardian piece I linked at the end implied that some of it is stuff like blood and tripe that many people probably wouldn't eat, which helps a bit .. but then I suspect that there might be bits of meat production that end up in cheap burgers and so on that I might not want to know too much about where they came from either!
And indeed although some foods are marketed as ‘all fit for human consumption’ not all are, and ‘fit for’ doesn’t mean ‘your family would actually eat this’.

Also dogs very rarely eat just meat. Most dog foods contain a good deal of vegetable matter and cereal.

I thought these XL Bully dogs ate mostly other dogs or children, not cows. How does that change the maths?
That's a good point, I'll redo some sums!
Which nicely illustrates how the choice of having a large pet is as significant as what car you choose to drive or where and how to go on vacation.
And of course it shows that eating 1kg/day of red meat wouldn't be a good thing for humans either, even leaving out the various health issues!
Yo Oliver - did you leave X(twitter). Always enjoyed your posts. Best.
Just having a bit of a break ... gets a bit much over there sometimes, particularly under the new management regime!
I hear ya! I will be sure to tune in here!!!
